Comment Contest Tuesday

I got this idea from a friend’s post one day on Facebook.

So to repeat Kristen, what do you eat when you’re feeling very snacky but don’t need (or want) to consume a bunch of calories/fat?

To reiterate the rules for Comment Contest Tuesday …

In the comments, answer the above question. You can comment as much as you like. The comment has to be relevant to the actual question. Up to three comments will be counted. In other words, you can comment five times, but your name will be put in the hat three times for the drawing of the winner. Make sense? Winner and prize will be announced on Monday.

You have until Friday at noon (my time) to comment away. You have to comment in the comments on Go Fit Girl! I won’t accept e-mails, comments on Facebook, etc.

OK, comment away. I can’t wait to hear your all your snack ideas.

  1. Radical move: I don’t snack anymore. It is sort of amazing how that’s actually reduced my appetite and cut down on any food cravings. I just eat my three meals a day!

BUT if I do find that my meal isn’t filling enough … I love a good handful of celery. The crunch is super-satisfying and it’s so juicy.

Runners-up: a handful of pistachios or a block of dark chocolate. I figure fat helps with satiety, so why not have a little of the really good stuff?

  2. In our house we eat constantly as a way of minimizing portions, and increasing the healthy food intake. For example we used to eat big lunches and dinners, but now about 11 we eat something like 1/2 cup trail mix, 12 a whole grain wrap with turkey, low-fat cheese and no dressing, 1- banana, 2- yogurt, 3- carrots with a little organic peanut butter. I have to admit though, there’s no snack that compares with grapes-n-peanut butter, or cashews!

  3. Unfortunately for me I like cheese a little too much. So when I feel like snacking on cheese, I spread a wedge of Laughing Cow Light Original Swiss onto 3 or 4 crackers. The wedge is only 35 calories, but it helps satisfy my craving.

  4. When I have the craving for potato chips or something sweet I turn to Popchips and Skinny Cow Truffle Bars. They taste amazing and are low in fat and calories. After munching on a few of these chips and one bar I feel satisfied. A few weeks ago when Darren was gone on a business trip I felt like a snack so reached for Lay’s Sour Cream & Onion chips and Safeway Select Moose Tracks flavored ice cream (all full fat). Boy was that a huge mistake. I couldn’t stop eating and had to force myself to stop. I felt so out of control. So the lesson I learned is don’t eat the full fat snacks since it’s easy to get hooked. Instead reach for the lower fat snacks since I know once my craving is satisfied I will be able to stop eating.
