Green Surge makes organic, green smoothies. They come into work twice a week and sell smoothies. They also have a 1-day, 3-day and 5-day Summer Cleanse.
I did the 3-day with some other co-workers so we could “suffer” together.
The Surge Express Cleanse provides about 1,ooo calories of dense nutrition a day. Every morning six smoothies are delivered and are numbered in the order they should be consumed.
I decided to do the cleanse for a few reasons. I think a detox occasionally is good for most people. I also really need to get back on track with my nutrition and felt that was a great way to launch back into it.
The fact that my friends are doing it along with me makes a difference as well.
I have my six smoothies a day along with raw veggies at lunch, a banana in the morning and I had a few homegrown (small) tomatoes last night and tonight.
A cleanse is not healthy for everyone. Make sure to check with your doctor if you have any questions or doubts or thyroid disease, digestive disease or are recovering from an eating disorder. Liquid cleansing is not recommended for people with diabetes.

The nutrition and exercise challenges for Go Fit Girl!’s January Monthly Challenge are about trying something new. (Facebook event page here.)
In the past week I have tried a few things in yoga I wasn’t willing to dare before.
I have been trying out the Shake Weight. Yup, go ahead and laugh. I was able to snatch it from a co-worker who got it during our White Elephant work lunch. And I am trying it out for a future review for Go Fit Girl!’s Review Wednesday.
Sunday morning is my regular grocery store weekly shopping. On Sunday I bought ingredients for Weight Watchers Fresh Vegetable Soup. Everything that went into the recipe I have eaten before. Last year I did a green smoothie cleanse and tried many vegetables (especially green leafy ones), which I had never tried before.
After I picked up the produce I needed I wandered around looking for a new item to cook. I looked at endives, which looked like a weird yellowish cabbage or lettuce. Eh, maybe not.
Then I decided to go look at the squash. I grabbed an acorn squash. I think I have probably eaten acorn squash, but … Continue reading
Tonight in Vickie’s yoga class we focused on a lot of twisting. There are many benefits to the twisting yoga poses (as are with all yoga poses).
According to an article on the Yoga Journal website: When twisting, the organs are compressed during a twist, pushing out blood filled with metabolic by-products and toxins. When we release the twist, fresh blood flows in, carrying oxygen and the building blocks for tissue healing.
Peter Blumenauer, a yoga teacher, holistic chiropractor, and co-founder of Clear the Toxins, says in the article: Twists enhance digestion and boost the flushing ability of the liver and kidneys.
Vickie reminded us at the end of class tonight to make sure to drink plenty of water. I normally drink at least 64 ounces of water a day. (I am at 80 ounces right now.)
Water helps cleanse and detox. Water tastes good when I am thirty or when I am working out or when hot. It’s one of the best things one can ingest.
And yes, when you drink a lot of water you have to pee a lot. Eventually the body adjusts a little. But what has to be remembered is the water is cleansing the … Continue reading
Sunday, January 22 was the last day I had alcohol or caffeine … Between trying to not rely on caffeine, my cleanse and then getting sick I have been “substance” free.
Until yesterday …
I stayed home from work on Wednesday. After a long day of watching TV, movies, lounging, napping, drinking tea and water I was craving an alcoholic beverage. I decided against it.
Yesterday some point at work I just needed a cup of coffee. So I had one. Wow, it tasted so good.
I worked from home this morning. I was in the kitchen getting my cereal ready and about to make some tea when I decided I really wanted some coffee. So I had some. Oh yummy!
The booze intake will happen again sometime this weekend. Definitely Sunday, but possibly tomorrow. Just trying to keep it all in moderation.
So I stayed home from work today.
I watched TV, movies, napped, lounged on the couch, took one work call … and I feel a lot better.
I am still congested and a little tired. But nothing like I felt yesterday.
OK, enough about me getting better.
So I am still disappointed that I had to quit my cleanse early. But something good did come out of it.
I lost 3.2 pounds over the week. I had no idea it would have that kind of weight loss. And really, I didn’t do the cleanse to lose weight. I had already been eating healthy and losing weight with portion-controlled filling meals and regular exercise.
Since quitting the cleanse everything I eat tastes so good. My first piece of chocolate on Monday was like heaven. So I am a little worried that my hard work will go out the window. But I am working hard to prevent that.
Wish me luck!
Last night I struggled to eat my dinner green smoothie. But I ate it.
This morning I cracked open my breakfast green smoothie. And it just tasted gross. I took about 10 bites and I just couldn’t do it. So I ditched it and had an apple and banana for breakfast. My goal was to keep it raw.
About 11:30 I cracked open my lunch smoothie. Ugh! I couldn’t do it. I decided that that was it. I was done.
I went downstairs to get a salad and soup for lunch.
I thought about trying my dinner smoothie tonight. But the idea of eating green goopey lawnmower pulp makes me ill.
I did my two transition days. And I did three full days of three smoothies for three meals. I am proud I got that far. I am still disappointed that I couldn’t complete the full seven days.
I think the most impressive part about my cleanse is that I went to our upstairs neighbors’ party for three hours and didn’t eat or drink anything except water. It was tough, but I was determined.
Oh yea, I haven’t mentioned that I am sick … again! Just three weeks after I … Continue reading
I survived Day 3 of my cleanse. I replaced my three meals with three green smoothies. I was a little hungry in the afternoon so I had an apple. Trying to keep it raw. It went much more smoothly than I thought it would.
Last night I attended my regular Friday evening Vinyasa flow class with Lily. We did moon salutations instead of sun salutations. It was a nice way to end the week and for an evening class.
One pose we did was called dragon pose. It was a nice stretch. And Lily mentioned it is a great pose for those of us who wear high heels.
Today is Day 4 of my cleanse. I woke up with a slightly scratchy throat. I am thinking it is because of the raw fruits and vegetables. I tried to do some research online. I couldn’t find anything that is certain. But I think the scratchy throat is because my body is detoxing.
I had a green smoothie for breakfast and lunch. I had some carrots for a snack this afternoon. For dinner I made raw “spaghetti.” I am eating half of it now. And will eat half later. … Continue reading
I survived Day 2 of my cleanse. But I was only substituting one meal with a one green smoothie today and yesterday.
Tomorrow will be the real test: three green smoothies=three meals. If all goes as planned I will do that for the next five days. We’ll see how it goes.
My friend Karen asked if the green smoothie I had today was actually green. I think the picture reveals the answer to Karen’s question.
The smoothies are so thick that I can’t actually drink it out of the water bottles I have been filing. Heck, I can’t even drink it. So I have been eating it with a spoon. That seems to work pretty well.
And the smoothies are so thick and filling that they take a long time to eat. It gives me a chance to eat my meal slowly and digest it slowly.
You may be wondering why I am doing this cleanse. I am doing it for a variety of reasons.
Lately I have been really paying attention to what I am eating and drinking. I decided that the cleanse would be a good addition to this. I do already eat a lot of fruits and … Continue reading
I recently signed up for a 7-day super cleanse with Lory Benson Pilates. The cleanse actually started on January 14. But the timing wasn’t right for me. I needed a time where I knew I could dedicate seven days to this green smoothie cleanse.
So I start the cleanse today. Today and tomorrow I will substitute one meal with a green smoothie. I have decided to have the smoothies for breakfast. Last night I made smoothies for today and tomorrow. I had a quick taste of each and they tasted pretty good.
The amount of smoothie seems like a lot of stuff to drink. But they are supposed to be filing. This cleanse focuses on green smoothies and raw food. A green smoothie’s two main ingredients are greens and fruit.
I plan to write updates on my cleanse throughout the week. Not sure if I will write about it every day. I hope to make it through the full seven days. Days 3 through 7 I will have three green smoothies a day. If I can’t drink three smoothies a day for five days I will try to do one or two. I will just try to do my best. It’s all … Continue reading
Sorry for the slacking in blogging. But rest assured I have not been slacking in the exercise or the caloric intake department.
Let’s see. What have I been up to since I last blogged on Tuesday …
On Wednesday I walked with some co-workers/friends. It was a small group, but we were/are fierce. The walk started off rather cool. But eventually we were warmed up and feeling good. We walked for an hour. And we were faster than last week. In our first 30 minutes we got farther than we did the week before. I kinda dreaded the hour walk. But once we got going I felt great! Wednesday night I went to Baxter’s Hatha yoga class, which was packed.
Thursday my friend/co-worker and I went out to lunch. We had Chinese food. I had a cup of hot and sour soup and steamed veggies over brown rice. I really wanted kung pao chicken, but I refrained. Thursday afternoon I hit the gym at work. I decided to not spin as the seat is jacked up. (The repair guy is coming tomorrow.) So I walked for about 20 minutes on the treadmill and then did weights and abs for about … Continue reading
