I took an extra long weekend with having Friday and Monday off as well as Saturday and Sunday.
I gave myself an extended weekend for a variety of reasons: I needed to get stuff done I don’t have time for in my spare time; I wanted to do some de-cluttering on our storage unit and wanted to go on a weekday; I wanted to do some extra lounging and relaxing and sleeping in for me.
On Friday I lounged a little in the morning before heading off to the storage unit and did some cleaning and de-cluttering. I also watched a few movies and then headed to yoga.
On Monday I enjoyed my coffee and TV watching in the morning. After that I tackled a few errands. Then some me time with a visit to Tootsies, a shoe store, and then a mani/pedi.
After that I came home and watched a movie and did some more lounging.
And I ended my me time with a yoga class.
And I am sure glad I took care of myself over the past few days. Because today at work was HELL. I am working on a big project and it is taking a … Continue reading
I am taking an extra long weekend for myself and just to get some stuff done.
I went to our storage unit yesterday to continue with my de-cluttering project.
When I first arrived it appeared worse than I thought. But once I started working on it I realized it really wasn’t that bad. For some reason we had a lot of empty boxes sitting in the unit.
I was only at the storage place for about an hour. I took a bunch of stuff home with me: including some stuff to go through at home and many boxes to break down and recycle.
As I was going up and down the stair ladder I realized I was getting some extra exercise in.
As I have mentioned before we have a new wellness program at work. Each participant makes goals and takes on challenges.
One of the challenges is to get 25 minutes of stairs in a week. There is also an extra 10 challenge. I initially didn’t take on this challenge as I already exercise so much I couldn’t possibly add 10 more minutes to my already aggressive routine.
But with the stair challenge I am also tackling the extra … Continue reading
This is gonna be a smorgasbord of a post: a little health care with some de-cluttering and recycling and donating thrown in.
Yesterday I had an eye appointment. I have worn glasses since I was 4. So going to the eye doctor has always been important. I have been wearing contacts for about four years and I wore them years ago for a couple of years.
On my walk to my appointment I ran a couple of errands. I dropped some clothes off at the cleaners along with a bunch of wire hangers. Then I stopped to get some hair product from one of the salon’s on the main drag in my hood.
My last stop was the eye doctor. I asked them if they took old glasses. They said they did and the donated glasses go to Lions Club International. So I donated four pairs of good glasses I found in my de-cluttering. Unfortunately they couldn’t take the cases.
I really like my eye doctor and the staff. It seems like a fun and good place to work. My appointment went well. All looked good. My contacts are still doing great. (I wear hard contacts.) Everything with my … Continue reading
In my massive de-cluttering project a big part of it is the shredding. Ugh, oh, the shredding.
The shredder I had before was old and tired. And the shredding was very slow going.
So on Thursday night I headed to Office Depot and bought a new shredder. I was willing to pay 100 bucks for a new shredder. I found a “medium duty” shredder, which was originally $100, but on sale for $60. Nice deal.
(By the way, the shredders at Office Depot seem to be on sale until the end of March.)
My new shredder can shred 12 sheets at once and it does so quickly. I did some shredding on Friday. And yesterday, that thing went to town. I finished all the shredding I needed to yesterday. I had planned to shred all weekend and possibly a few more weekends.
It’s a good thing I didn’t have to do any shredding today as I am a complete zombie with the Spring Forward.
When I got back from yoga today I was so tired. I lounged watching some taped TV I needed to catch up on. And then I took a nap. I am still feeling a little zombie-like.

Today the dreaded shredding started. I have piles and piles of paperwork that needs shredding. It appears to be never ending.
Some of the shredding is from the de-clutter project and some of it is just the usual paperwork I need to shred, like old receipts and credit card applications and old bills, etc.
The shredder I have is not made for the kind of shredding I put it through. So it is on its second rest. When the motor gets too warm it shuts itself down to protect the motor.
I am pretty sure I am going to burn this one out. I did with my last one. Smoke started coming out of it.
When I mentioned the smoke to the cashier when buying shredder No. 2 she told me once the motor is shot it is shot. So I bought a warranty for No. 2.
The cashier recommended I tape the warranty paperwork underneath the shredder so I would always know where it is. I just checked it. My warranty expired in July.
So once this puppy conks out I will be buying a new one. I am gonna go with a much more durable this third time … Continue reading
… Alicia. Congrats, Alicia! And thanks for participating in last week’s Comment Contest Tuesday.
Last week I asked my readers: What do you do to take care of yourself and love yourself? (I also told my readers what I do to take care of myself and love myself.
Stephanie mentioned that she likes to take alone time; relaxing and taking time to read; home facial or mani/pedi; and, of course, reading Go Fit Girl! among other things.
Jen mentioned regularly exercising; spending time with the ones she loves, baking and cooking among other things.
Alicia mentioned that work is very stressful for her so she has to take time just for herself away from work; swapping out yogurt for breakfast; keeping fruit at her desk to not be lured by junk food among other things.
I regularly exercise; practice yoga at least three times a week; try to take Restorative yoga a couple of times a month (my studio only offers the class once a week); try to limit alcohol intake; try to limit caloric intake; blog; watch movies and TV; knitting; (when Joey was still alive, cuddle time … Continue reading
This has been a great long weekend.
I took Friday off, giving myself a 4-day weekend instead of a three. Sweet!
Friday morning I had a dentist appointment and then took the car in for maintenance.
After that the de-cluttering of the spare room/office began. I have worked on this room every day since Friday.
I have a lot of shredding to do and a few more things to sort through and Curt has some stuff to go through. But other than that it is nearing completion and the room is starting to look more as it should be and becoming presentable.
On Saturday night our friends Monica and Giovanni hosted Fiesta Italiana. (I know them from spin class at the gym. Over the past year various friends have hosted parties or dinner parties.)
The food was amazing. Oh man, it was so good! Others brought salads and the rest of us made sure we were in good supply of booze. I am always good at supplying booze. Curt and I brought Italian wine and beer.
As with most “spin parties” they turn into a dance party.
So between my two hours at the gym in the morning (spin; abs; … Continue reading
I decided to take today off and have a four-day weekend.
I accomplished a lot today.
I had a dentist appointment this morning. Then the car had scheduled maintenance. And I started the daunting task of de-cluttering the spare room/office/dumping room.
I took the car in a little after 9. The dealership offers courtesy shuttle service. It was a sunny and cool morning. I decided to walk home. The roughly 1-mile took about 20 minutes to walk and was quite pleasant. I listened to the morning DJs on my Radio.com app.
Once home I had some coffee and breakfast. And then the de-cluttering began.
About 12:15 or so Curt asked me if I wanted to go have lunch. (Curt worked from home today.) After lunch I walked back to the dealership, which was a pleasant and warmer 20-minute walk.
I got in about 2 miles of walking today with a 90-minute Vinyasa yoga class this evening.
Today is Valentine’s Day. I find the holiday silly and pretty much pointless. If you are single, you feel bad that you are. If you are in a relationship, you feel pressure. Curt and I don’t give gifts or cards. If we can, we do go out to dinner and eat delicious sushi.
Last night in Baxter’s Hatha class we focused on our heart and opening it up. (Baxter likes to do themes. Last week we focused on the feet.)
We set an intention at the beginning of class. I set mine for someone else. But during class I really thought about my heart being opened up and taking care of me.
I, like many women, feel that I must take care of everyone else. Which usually means I sacrifice taking care of myself. (Part of it is also that I am a control freak. But we don’t need to talk about that now.)
But how I take care of myself and love myself is by making sure I regularly exercise, try to eat healthy, cut back my caffeine intake, try to keep my alcohol drinking to weekends and to … Continue reading
I survived Day 2 of my cleanse. But I was only substituting one meal with a one green smoothie today and yesterday.
Tomorrow will be the real test: three green smoothies=three meals. If all goes as planned I will do that for the next five days. We’ll see how it goes.
My friend Karen asked if the green smoothie I had today was actually green. I think the picture reveals the answer to Karen’s question.
The smoothies are so thick that I can’t actually drink it out of the water bottles I have been filing. Heck, I can’t even drink it. So I have been eating it with a spoon. That seems to work pretty well.
And the smoothies are so thick and filling that they take a long time to eat. It gives me a chance to eat my meal slowly and digest it slowly.
You may be wondering why I am doing this cleanse. I am doing it for a variety of reasons.
Lately I have been really paying attention to what I am eating and drinking. I decided that the cleanse would be a good addition to this. I do already eat a lot of fruits and … Continue reading
