Enjoying vacation

Since the end of 2006 I have been a fairly healthy person.

In October 2006 I joined Weight Watchers and started on the venture to lose about 30 pounds.

In March of 2007 I started regularly exercising, which still continues to this day. (And now I teach other people to exercise and practice yoga.)

I work hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes it is easy. And sometimes it is a struggle.

Since I am healthy the majority of the time I allow myself to be unhealthy (or go off plan in the WW world) from time to time.

When I travel I want to enjoy food and drinks without having to worry about my caloric intake. Sometimes I am great with the exercise and other times it suffers. (I have been getting my yoga practice in every day since we have been here.)

But here’s the thing, I have fun while on vacation and then when I get home things get back to normal and healthy again.

Curt and I are in Las Vegas with friends for a long fun March Madness weekend.

There is sports watching, a little gambling, lots of eating and drinking (especially the cheap brewed … Continue reading

Fun stories, random drawing, one Comment Contest Tuesday winner

Last week for Comment Contest Tuesday, I asked my readers what was or is your nickname? When you were a little kid what did you want your name to be? Any stories behind your name or nickname?

There were some fun answers. Thanks to all the ladies for answering.

The random drawing winner was … don’t call her Alice … Alicia.

Alicia doesn’t really have a nickname. But she has an interesting story about how when she was a kid her Chinese family really struggled to say her “Spanish” name.

My family calls me Annie. But I used to wish my name was Starr. I am still not a fan of my name. It’s boring and I consider it an old lady name.

In my Saturday spin class there are two other Anns (spelled just like mine) and if we are all there people yell out All Anns on Board. It’s fun! Yes, we are one wild and crazy spin class.

Brenda Marie, thanks for participating, and don’t worry, you aren’t in trouble.

Rebecca (aka Bridget[te]), I don’t remember the “other” Rebecca in kindergarten. Were you in Holly Lackowitz’s (is that how she spelled it) class?

Wow, Kim Hammermeister, now … Continue reading

Birthday card humor

Tonight’s post will be brief as I am doing laundry and packing for a business trip later this week.

If the A’s win tonight I will likely be going to Game 5 tomorrow, which is supposed to be my night to pack.

Since Game 4 is still going (and a rather exciting game), which The Husband was lucky to go to as well as our attendance last night I am preparing for the fact that I may not have time to pack tomorrow.

This means I am also paying bills and going through mail and all that stuff you have to do before you take off for a few days.

I had a great birthday yesterday with pampering and watching the A’s win last night. A great time.

So tonight I will post pics of two birthday cards I got.

Is Hallmark watching Go Fit Girl! and making cards to cater to me???

I hope to post at least a few times while I am in Charlotte for a trademark conference.

I can guarantee there will be lots of eating and drinking. At these types of events the vendors really take care of you and make sure you have plenty … Continue reading

America’s Next Pole Dancer?

My good friend Monica is getting married next month. Her bachelorette party was on Saturday.

Because my mom was in town I couldn’t participate in most of the activities. But the one I did participate in was the pole dancing class.

Talk about some sweaty exercise.

There were probably about 15 of us participating. There were five poles set up. The instructor would show us a simple routine around the pole and then have us each try it out.

We learned a few routines and then put them all together for a “sexy” dance. We also did some booty popping. If you want to look for videos you can look yourself. Just realize it is at your own risk.

Working the stripper pole is a lot harder than it looks. You have to have strong arms, strong legs, strong core, strong back …

I think my regular yoga practice helped with my pole dancing practice. I am not super coordinated. But the routines were simple. And I seem to have some sort of odd focus and calmness while trying out the various routines and tricks.

And for some reason I am really good at fireman, which is where you … Continue reading
