I was born, bred and educated in Tucson, Ariz. I left about two weeks after I graduated from college when I was 23.
Most of my family members never leave Tucson. So it was a big deal for me to leave and move somewhere where I knew no one. But for the sake of my career and to really grow up and blossom I had to take that step.
Previously I have written about how lucky I was as a little girl to have three great-grandmas, two grandmas and two grandpas. Apparently when I was a sassy little thing (nope, haven’t out grown that) my parents would say to me, we are going to visit grandma. And I would say (sweetly, I am sure), which one?
So most of them got nicknames from little Annie Chihak. My dad’s mom announced that she would be called Nana before her first grandchild (me) was born. My mom’s parents were named Grandma and Grandpa Lisa because my Aunt Lisa lived with them. My dad’s grandma was Grandma Chihak (I don’t think I made that one up myself). My dad’s dad was Grandpa Frank. (I have a feeling I didn’t make that one … Continue reading
And the Comment Contest Tuesday on a Thursday winners are revealed.
Six wonderful women participated and six wonderful women are getting a little something for showing love to themselves.
Three were my some of my regular readers/supporters/commenters. And three were new commenters but I suspect regular supporters/readers. 🙂
The question was simple: What do you love about yourself?
But for many the answer was not easy. We all had to really dig down and be true to ourselves. And the things that came out were amazing!
- Brenda: I love my knowledge of sports, I can talk sports with just about anyone. I also love teaching, which is my profession. I enjoy sharing my knowledge about nutrition and fitness and shedding light on what the truth is versus myths and fads.
- Melanie: I’ve learned to love and appreciate my body – that took a long time, but after having Lexi I have come to a much bigger appreciation for my body & love every curve that comes with it. I love that I’m a good friend. … I love almost being 40 – the older I get the further I move from self-doubt and the closer I move towards self-love!
- Andrea: I realized that I … Continue reading
Last year around this time one of my awesome yoga teacher’s, Vickie, mentioned Madly in Love with Me, which is a project, a mission, a passion created by one of her friends.
I looked at the site a little. But never gave it the time I should.
I recently asked her about it and she reminded me of the name: Madly in Love with Me. (There’s a Facebook page for it, too.)
I have done a little research on the site and I just love the idea of self-love. (AND it goes with Go Fit Girl!’s February Monthly Challenge theme about taking care of No. 1. If you want to join the challenge, you can click right here to go to the Facebook event page.)
The stated mission of Madly in Love with Me is: Our mission is to reclaim self-love for every woman and girl on this planet, so that she may know what it is to be deeply loved, starting with the love she has for herself.
Some excerpts from the blog on what self-love is, why it is needed and what it means:
Why Self-Love? While it is true that women and … Continue reading
As Michelle was proud of her husband last Monday, I have warm fuzzy feelings about mine as well.
Curt started a new job last Monday. After almost 8 years at one employer he made the decision to make the move to change jobs. This is a good move for him and his career and I am supportive.
Almost two weeks ago was his last day at his former employer. There were going-away drinks for him in the city that night. So I made my way to the city (aka San Francisco) to join him, his co-workers and some of our friends.
There were lots of people at the outing. Many I knew, some I didn’t.
I heard more than once that it was the biggest going away drinks attended. I also heard that Curt brought out a bunch of formers for his send-off.
And lastly, many people I met for the first time kept saying what a “good guy” he is. Many were going to miss him terribly.
When you love someone and you hear others say nice things about them it gives you this amazing feeling. Pride. Love. Joy.
Since I am not a parent I imagine that this … Continue reading
I believe in religious rights, which means I believe people can practice or not practice any religion one chooses. I may not agree with your choice. But it is yours. And as long as you don’t try to put your beliefs on me we are cool.
I also believe in the separation of Church and State.
I grew up as a Catholic. I was confirmed at 16. I am now a non-practicing Catholic and have been for about 20 years.
Recently I have been having numerous conversations about what it means to be a Christian.
This really has me thinking and wondering why it is so important for so many to be labeled or to label others as a Christian.
Isn’t a good person a good person regardless of their religious affiliation? Muslims, Jews, agnostics, atheists, Buddhists are among those that are not Christian. I know people who represent all those I just mentioned and they are good, kind, decent, loving people.
I consider myself a Christian and a good person. Those two don’t always go hand in hand.
We live in a world where there is so much cruelty and judgment.
Don’t we all have enough going … Continue reading
Tonight I attended Forrest Yoga. It was the last class being taught by Kristen. She is opening her own yoga studio and will be concentrating on opening that in the next two months or so.
Forrest Yoga is an amazing and intense experience. Some of it I really enjoy. Some of it I could pass on. With any yoga class, but for me especially with Forrest Yoga it can be an emotional experience. I think as you are learning about your body while doing some intense stuff and releasing toxins while dripping sweat can all add to that experience.
Today was a slightly tough day for me. Work was fine. I actually got more completed than I thought I would, which happens a lot when I work from home. And I am actually a little excited about one of the many projects I am working on right now.
Joey, my 17-year-old man furbaby, had an appointment at the vet this morning. Joey needs a check up every six months because he is an old man. He gets his geriatric profile and diabetic testing.
Joey hates getting into his carrier. And I had to do it by myself this … Continue reading
