Review Wednesday: Jamberry nail wraps

I have talked about my thin, peeling nails before.

For more than a year I have been trying to get them back to healthy with no more peeling.

I started using Nail-Aid after gel rescue, which seemed to help a little. I also started taking calcium every day.

My friend Heather is a Jamberry consultant. I asked her to send me a sample.

I tried the sample on my pinkies. I am hard on any nail polish on my fingers. The sample lasted on my nails until I removed them, which was nine days.

My samples only “chipped” ever so slightly throughout the time I had them on. The nail wraps don’t really chip like regular polish does.

The true test of Jamberry was when I washed my hair. After I washed my hair while wearing them and saw that they were holding strong I went to Heather’s Jamberry site and ordered a sheet of Glacier nail wraps.

One sheet is $15, plus shipping and handling. The cost is a little steep and I think the S&H is too high. What I did find out with my second order was that whether I order one sheet or four the S&H is $3.99. … Continue reading

Keeping nails, hands, feet healthy

I had my nails done recently, probably for the first time ever in Oregon. (When I lived in Oregon right after college I didn’t have a lot of money and rarely had a manicure and at that point had never had a pedicure.)

Last week as I was getting ready to dip my toes in the warm water I was asked if I had my nail kit. I had no idea what I was being asked.

It was explained to me that it is Oregon law to have my own nail kit, which consists of nail file, toe separators, foot scrubby cleaning thing (yup, that’s an official name for it–kidding!), aka pumice, and a nail buffer. It cost me just 2 bucks and I need to bring it with me every time (or pay 2 bucks every time).

After I got home I started the research on being the owner of my own nail kit.

From what I read I believe the law went into effect in Oregon in 2007.

Oregon.gov Board of Cosmetology website, which states that Oregon launched a public education campaign called Safe Salons, says, in other states, bacterial skin infection outbreaks — due to improper cleaning and disinfection of foot spas … Continue reading

Taking care of No. 1

As a woman I have to remind myself that I need to take care of me, too.

I have a long commute to work and a long day during the week as I get up between 5:15 and 5:30 most mornings. At times my job can be demanding and stressful.

Even though I am not a mother I am usually worrying about someone else or thinking about someone else or making sure things get done for someone else.

In order to take care of others we have to take care of No. 1 first. Otherwise we really can’t take care of others as well as we think we should.

Lately I have been getting a massage once a month. For years I have gotten massages regularly. And when money is OK I make sure to do it more often.

Today I got a massage from my awesome massage therapist Thanh at Bellissima Day Spa in Berkeley, where I have been going for more than seven years. Thanh is amazing with her hands. She is also a good, kind and hard working person. She cares about me and the feeling is mutual.

Today as she was working me I realized … Continue reading

Just for me

I took an extra long weekend with having Friday and Monday off as well as Saturday and Sunday.

I gave myself an extended weekend for a variety of reasons: I needed to get stuff done I don’t have time for in my spare time; I wanted to do some de-cluttering on our storage unit and wanted to go on a weekday; I wanted to do some extra lounging and relaxing and sleeping in for me.

On Friday I lounged a little in the morning before heading off to the storage unit and did some cleaning and de-cluttering. I also watched a few movies and then headed to yoga.

On Monday I enjoyed my coffee and TV watching in the morning. After that I tackled a few errands. Then some me time with a visit to Tootsies, a shoe store, and then a mani/pedi.

After that I came home and watched a movie and did some more lounging.

And I ended my me time with a yoga class.

And I am sure glad I took care of myself over the past few days. Because today at work was HELL. I am working on a big project and it is taking a … Continue reading
