Summer Cleanse

Green Surge  makes organic, green smoothies. They come into work twice a week and sell smoothies. They also have a 1-day, 3-day and 5-day Summer Cleanse.

I did the 3-day with some other co-workers so we could “suffer” together.

The Surge Express Cleanse provides about 1,ooo calories of dense nutrition a day. Every morning six smoothies are delivered and are numbered in the order they should be consumed.

I decided to do the cleanse for a few reasons. I think a detox occasionally is good for most people. I also really need to get back on track with my nutrition and felt that was a great way to launch back into it.

The fact that my friends are doing it along with me makes a difference as well.

I have my six smoothies a day along with raw veggies at lunch, a banana in the morning and I had a few homegrown (small) tomatoes last night and tonight.

A cleanse is not healthy for everyone. Make sure to check with your doctor if you have any questions or doubts or thyroid disease, digestive disease or are recovering from an eating disorder. Liquid cleansing is not recommended for people with diabetes.

Hunting for protein

I am a carnivore. Though I don’t need to eat meat with every meal and actually am a regular consumer of salads and brown rice and veggies.

Until I met Curt I was a little weirded out by the idea of venison. But now I love it. I love it as burger, tenderloin, jerky, pepperoni sticks …

And venison is a protein. You know how I love my protein. And it is a very lean meat with very little fat.

According to Livestrong, wild venison can have 35 g protein per 4-ounce serving and contains about 120 calories.

Before I met Curt I (in my ignorance) I assumed anyone with a gun was a crazy nut job. Yes, I am from Arizona. But I never grew up around guns and am not comfortable around them.

For at least the past five years in a row (and a few other times tricked in) Curt and I have traveled to Missouri for the opening of deer season.

I have had many conversations with people who can’t believe we hunt Bambi. My response usually is, well, you eat meat, right? And it is safer and healthier than anything you buy at the … Continue reading

Grateful for new recipe

Today I am going to share a recipe with you, which was shared with me by my friend Monica.

Monica had lunch one day recently with a friend who replicated a recipe from Cafe Gratitude.

Cafe Gratitude is a restaurant in Berkeley. (And has a couple of other locations.) All of their food is organic and vegan and they specialize in gourmet raw and cooked cuisines. I have eaten there once years ago. Whatever I had was pretty good. I am wiling to try different things.

As I started to do research on the restaurant and the recipe I am going to share with you I found that this recipe: I am Grateful has more meaning than just a healthy, vegan meal.

According to the website where the menu is listed the I am Grateful bowl is a community supported grain bowl. Shredded kale with local brown rice, black beans and tahini-garlic sauce. They created this bowl to allow for those in financial need to have access to organic vegan food. Payment for this bowl is by donation. No one is turned away. The suggested value is $7. You can feed yourself and someone in need for … Continue reading
