Full workout at home

My routine was completely out of whack this week.

I got sick on Sunday and even though I felt better on Monday I decided to skip the gym and make sure I was back to healthy. (Plus I had a fever on Sunday, which broke Sunday night or Monday morning, and didn’t want to infect anyone else.)

Tuesday I hit my regular yoga class. Wednesday I had to stay at work later and planned to hit a later yoga class. But once I got home I was beat and had some work to do.

Thursday and Friday I had a training in the city (San Francisco). It went until 5 on Thursday and I knew I would never make my 6 p.m. spin class. I decided to wear a camisole tank top under my blouse. I shoved my flip flops and yoga pants into my purse (yup, it pays to have a big purse). I went straight from the BART station to the yoga studio with about 5 minutes to spare and quickly changed into my yoga clothes for class.

A little cardio with some arms sprinkled in

My inner thighs are still sore from Saturday’s step ups during circuit training in body conditioning. I am walking around pretty funny.

I still wanted to do some cardio today. So I did 30 minutes of intervals on the espinner.

After my cardio I did some weights for my arms, especially since Saturday’s body conditioning had more of an emphasis on legs.

I didn’t have a lot of time today. So I did bicep curls (example of me in the picture to the left), lateral raises for my shoulders and tricep curls.

If I am still sore tomorrow I will try to be careful with the cardio and legs again and put an emphasis on working some other arm muscles.

Pesky arm waddle

I had a different post in mind for today. I did a lot of research. But still actually need to organize thoughts, research and get it written down.

Then something came up at the gym today and I am going to write about that instead. I love when that happens. To me that means that there is so much to write about the ideas and thoughts aren’t coming anywhere near an end.

There were only four of us in the body conditioning class today, four students and Jenn, the teacher.

Somehow as we were setting up for class we started talking about the arm waddle. We all had it at varying degrees–some much, much smaller than others. We all vary in age and weight and we still all had it. Someone said you need to start working the triceps before you get a certain age. Almost every woman I know has it in some form, no matter age, weight or even toned arms! Julia mentioned it was our muscle. I didn’t realize muscle hangs and dangles.

We jokingly talked about how the gym needs to get some Shake Weights for us to work the waddles.

Spin vs. work

I started a project this afternoon and was on a roll. At about 5:10 I started the debate, stay and work or go to spin and sweat. Yea, not the best options to have to hash out.

I decided that the work would be there tomorrow. And I am really trying to achieve and maintain work/life balance. And taking care of myself is the life part.

At about 6:30 the fire alarm went off. It was ear-piercing and that damn flashing light. Argh! It wouldn’t stop. And John, the instructor, decided to stop class. We were right near one of the alarms and it was so freakin’ loud.

After class was over early I decided to grab my iPhone and listen to some music (loudly) while doing some weights, which Sarah, yoga instructor, recommended. I worked on lateral pulls and triceps.

So in the end it worked out. Because I got kinda annoyed that I had chosen to leave work early and go to class. HA! I say early–really I mean on time. So sad.
