Mix It Up! event at Athleta

Next weekend I will be partnering up with Athleta.

I will be at Athleta Washington Square next Saturday, Feb. 6 for Mix It Up!

The Mix It Up! event has participants mixing up their workout style in a fitness class mashup — Athleta will be hosting two distinct 30 minute workouts that you might not otherwise put together.

At Athleta Washington Square the mix up will be 30 minutes of yoga with Go Fit Girl! (aka Ann) and 30 minutes of boot camp with Stephanie from Fit Body Boot Camp.

The fitness mashup begins at 9 a.m.

After the two workouts there will be a styling session while getting some pointers on print-mixing. Attend the event for a chance to win a pair of tights.

Feel free to bring friends along with a mat and water bottle and get ready to have some fun.

Protein secret revealed: It can help you lose weight (and keep you healthy)

This month’s nutrition challenge is about getting in enough protein every day. (Facebook event page here.)

And the headline should be no secret, especially to my regular GFG! readers.

But you all know how much I am into eating protein and writing about it. (And if you can stand it, I will discuss this in person with you, too.)

From the various research I have done I found that on average women should get in 46 grams of protein a day. If you have an active lifestyle it should be more than that.

Protein can be found in all kinds of foods. And protein can help you lose weight.

Here’s a quick list of protein-rich foods: legumes, chicken, cheese, nuts, tofu, eggs, fish, red meat (yes, you can eat red meat in moderation), peanut butter (also moderate as it is high in fat), whole grain pasta, brown rice …

This WebMD article discusses the high-protein diet for weight loss. There are some great … Continue reading

July will be no June

Two days into July and no workouts. I know that doesn’t seem like a big deal. But many challenges are already waiting for me. Out of town one weekend, visitors here two different weekends.

And I don’t even want to get started on the caloric intake department. Hasn’t been so awesome lately. And being out of town and having visitors also means eating out a lot.
